// description

The idea for Hashgear began at a political/social rally, where I noticed that a lot of people had made t-shirts and signs with hashtags on them—but realized quickly that these kinds of products were either made by hand or sourced from ad-hoc sources.

I realized that hashtags had become a powerful source of self-expression, yet there was no reliable source for products with hashtags that were relevant to the speed of social media.

After a bit of research, I found that the technology existed to scrape hashtags from social media and generate fully vetted eCommerce products within seconds. I saw it as an opportunity to pursue a project that would expand my skills (building my first back-end server, forming my first company) while also potentially providing some revenue.

Hashgear is now fully operational. If a hashtag trends on Twitter, the Hashgear server creates apparel + accessories within 60 seconds. The server is fully automated and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The full story can be found on the company’s blog page.
